Synopsis / description

A short documentary on the life of José Antonio Agirre in New York, the city he arrived in after travelling through France, Belgium, Germany, Sweden and Brazil. Once in New York, Aguirre set up the Basque Government in exile, which had been unable to take office during the short period it spent in Paris due to the arrival of the Nazis. He worked as a history lecturer at Columbia University whilst preparing his book From Guernica to New York, via Berlin. This film features footage of the Lehendakari (President) at work, with students, family and colleagues.
